Hausa literature:

  • descriptive-analytical research on creative writing of modern Hausa writers;
  • complex analysis of literary process in Northern Nigeria;
  • interdisciplinary study of certain literary forms (prose fiction, playwrighting, poetry);
  • research on the process of modernization in Hausa literature, which distinguishes literary process as both agent and object of social change;
  • code-switching in Hausa literature.

African literatures:

  • comparative studies on African literatures;
  • english literature of Nigeria.

Niger-Congo languages:

  • the description of Waka morphosyntax (Adamawa).

During her field work in Nigeria (January-February 2012, January-February 2013, January-February 2014) A.Lyakhovich collected data on Adamawa languages and oral literature as well as Hausa modern literature.

Projects:

A. Lyakhovich was researcher on the projects "Comparative study of linguistic, hystorical and cultural paradigms in the context of development of Asian and African countries" (15381713.00 RUB, 2006-10), "Comparative studies of literary paradigms of Asia and Africa (in diachronic aspect)" (1516381.00 RUB, 2011-3), "Niger-Congo languages" (70000 RUB, 2012), "Languages of Africa to the South of Sahara: from structural morphosyntactic analysis to the functional synthesis of paradigmatic elements for the linguistic picture of the world" (4500000 RUB, 2013-5) funded by Saint Petersburg State University.

The field work undertaken by A.Lyakhovich in Nigeria (2012, 2013, 2014) for the projects "Comparative studies of literary paradigms of Asia and Africa (in diachronic aspect)" and "Languages of Africa to the South of Sahara: from structural morphosyntactic analysis to the functional synthesis of paradigmatic elements for the linguistic picture of the world" was supported also by the Foundation of Fundamental Linguistic Research in Russia (2012) and by the American University in Nigeria (2012, 2013, 2014).

During her work A. Lyakhovich assisted in establishing new collaborative links between St. Petersburg University, Department of African Studies and the University of Leipzig (Germany), University of Hamburg (Germany), University of London, SOAS (UK), American University (Nigeria).
