With the quality of education St Petersburg University has kept a position in the top 100 of the world reputation ranking of universities made by the Times Higher Education (THE) magazine. The level of teaching in 2019 has enabled St Petersburg University to be ranked the 91st in the corresponding nomination.

In accordance with the methodology, only the ranking data of the top 100 is published. According to information directly received from the ranking compilers, this year St Petersburg University has taken 121st place in the overall reputation rank, having moved up four positions in the top 100 universities.  In terms of the reputation indicator in the quality of teaching, St Petersburg University has occupied 91st position in the top 100. In terms of the research quality indicator it has moved to 139th place of the ranking, having risen 10 positions in a year.

The reputation ranking of THE is formed annually on the basis of the academic community polls. In 2019, more than 10,000 scientists from 140 countries have taken part in the polls. They estimated the educational and research reputation of 1200 leading universities in the world.

According to ranking compilers, the scientists who acted as experts had their experience in their fields of science confirmed by their printing activity over at least 15 years. The survey was conducted in the first quarter of 2019.

The compiler of the ranking, the THE magazine, is the edition specialising in news and analytical materials about higher education. The first reputation ranking was published by the magazine in 2011. The THE also makes other rankings of higher education institutions, including those by regions, subjects, as well as the overall world ranking and the university impact ranking.
