19 Tsankova A. D. | Quantitative Survey on the Correlation of Basic Factors for the Functioning... insignificant. Another basic factor that influences the appearance of 了 1 is the specified (definite) type of argument, but in the case of 了 2 it shows opposite correlation, i. e. in case of definite argument 了 2 tends to be rarely used. This is another evidence of the general rule that in sentences with dynamic predicates, when 了 1 and 了 2 may express quite similar aspectual meaning of completed event — perfect or perfective, the choice between the two variants depends to a great degree on the properties of the argument (definite ↔ indefinite). In contrast, again, to the factors for 了 1 marking, in the case of 了 2 we observe that the factor “Speech mode—dialogue” is statistically significant, and it shows the highest degree of determination, compared to the other factors in the correlational model (with Beta = 0,325). This is to prove that the usage of 了 2 is more typical for direct speech, which is justified by the prototype semantic meaning of 了 2 , denoting a “currently relevant state” (Li, Thompson 1981: 240), i. e. a situation relevant usually to the time of speaking. The next step in our analysis is to examine the correlations in the usage of 了 2 with non-dynamic predicates . In this respect, we shall discuss two representative models for 了 2 with non-dynamic predicates: In the current model we include basically the same factor variables as in the representative models for 了 1 and for 了 2 with dynamic predicates, with the Fig. 3.
