Some of the surveys present experimental studies on the acquisition of aspect-tense forms by learners of Chinese as a second language (Duff, Li 2002; Ma 2006: 172–189), or by Chinese students of English language (Hawkins, Liszka 2003). As far as we have researched, there still hasn’t been presented an experimental study on the overall functioning of the three main gram- matical aspect-tense forms 了 , 过 and 着 , taking into account different factors for their irregular explication in identical lexical and grammati- cal context. The aim of the current study is to evaluate the influence of basic linguistic factors for the variance of the markers 了 , 过 , 着 in close-to-real speech conditions, implementing correlational statistical analysis based on an original experimantal survey. The research questions that we address in the current study are: First , whether the explication of the verbal formatives is determined by the basic and commonly discussed linguistic factors? Second , what is the degree of determination of the most efficient correlative models for the variance in usage of the formatives? Third , what is the relative contribution of each relevant factor within the correlative models to the performance in usage of the formatives? Research methods : The analysis is based on an experimental study, designed in four variants aiming to assess the minimal and the maximal intuitive usage, as well as the minimal and the maximal conscious usage of the markers. The experimental material is a literary text of 11 832 characters (approximately 22 standard pages) excerpted from the contemporary Chinese novel „ 改写人生 “ 1 , 2008 (ʻRe-writing One’s Life Storyʼ, 2008) by 徐奇峰 (Xu Qifeng) with a total number of 1062 observed positions of possible appearance of aspect-tense markers (post-verbal and sentence- final positions). The respondents in the study are native speakers, graduate students in Chinese Philology and Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language majors or university professors in the same field of study in educational institutions in Beijing and North-East China.
