Center For African Studies of the Institute of World History of RAS Abstract: The Center for African Studies of the Institute of World History of the Russian Academy of Sciences was established by ApollonDavidson onDecember 1, 1971.7 as the Sector of African history. The main research areas of the Center's staff have been source studies and historiography of the countries of Tropical and Southern Africa, the history of Russian- African relations and African colonial societies. Under the leadership of Academician Apollon Davidson, over half a century of its existence, the Center's staff has published more than 70 individual and collective monographs, held many scientific conferences.
